Transpose Link Tool - TT01-003
Designed for Microsoft Excel, this "Tarsier Tool" will enable you to transpose a row of cells to a column, and vice versa, while at the same time, maintaining a link between the destination range and the original range. The link can be made on the same sheet, a different sheet in the same workbook, or even in a different workbook.

For example, this tool could be used if you are using Excel to do your company finances. If you find it easier to list your expenses in columns, and the months in rows, and then to finally sum up in the final column; without our Transpose Link Tool, you would have to manually link each row total to each column entry in your horizontal Cash Flow, Balance Sheet, etc. spreadsheet.

The tool includes Help. If you need it just click on the Help button on the tool's menu bar. Additional information will be provided on this page if it is needed.

This Tarsier tool is distributed as a Microsoft Excel Add-in which is not password protected in accordance with the GNU General Public License. You should review the GNU GPL to determine your rights to distribute this software and be informed that this software is distributed with NO WARRANTY.

Usage Instructions
To use the Transpose Link Tool:

1. Select the row or column of cells you want to transpose,
2. Click on the Copy button on the TSS Transpose Link Tool toolbar, or
   Right-Click the selection and select Copy to Transpose.
3. Select the cell where you want the transposed row/column to be transposed to, (this can be on any sheet in any workbook).
4. Click on the Paste button on the TSS Transpose Link Tool toolbar, or
   Right-Click and select Transpose Selection.

The selected row or column of cells to transpose is kept after pasting allowing multiple pastes of the same source data.

Error Messages
When you use the Transpose Link Tool, you can get error messages due to the following,

1. A Microsoft Excel spreadsheet only has 256 columns, (A to IV). If you try and transpose more than 256 rows a message box will appear telling you that "You can not transpose more than 256 rows.". You must go to the original data and select less than 256 rows and try again.
2. Similarly, the further to the right of the first column you start, the lower the number of rows you can transpose. If the starting column plus the number of rows exceeds 256, a message box will appear telling you that "You can not transpose more than ### rows when starting from this column." (where ### = a number). You must go to the original data and select less than the indicated number of rows and try again.
3. A Microsoft Excel spreadsheet only has 65536 rows. If the starting row plus the number of rows exceeds 65536, a message box will appear telling you that "You can not transpose more than ### columns when starting from this row." (where ### = a number). You must go to the original data and select less than the indicated number of columns and try again.
4. The Transpose Link Tool only allows you to transpose a single row or column of data. You can not transpose a rectangle of cells. If you try, the following message will appear, "You can only transpose a column to a row, or a row to a column, not a block of cells.".

License Fee
There is no license fee for personal use of this tool. However, if you are using this software within software that you are developing and intend to sell, please e-mail us for details of the license fee.

How to Install

1. Download the appropriate Transpose Link Tool for your version of Windows and Excel (see the Software section of this page) and use the save this file to disk option to save the file to a directory on your computer where you'll be able to find it later. (See Note below). A good location to save the file is to your Microsoft Excel Add-In directory, which can be found by completing steps 2, and 3.
2. Start Microsoft Excel, and from the Tools menu, select Add-Ins...,
3. Click on the Browse... button, which will list all the non Microsoft Excel Add-Ins,
4. A. If you saved the file to your Microsoft Excel Add-In directory, select TT01-003.xla from the list of files and click the OK button,
   B. If you saved the file to another directory, change to that directory in the same way that you would use the Open file dialog to open a file; then select TT01-003.xla from the list of files and click the OK button,
   
5. Ensure that the box for the "TSS Transpose Link Tool" is ticked/checked, as shown below, and click OK
   

The tool's menu bar will appear and can be controlled like any Excel menu bar. It will be removed when the Add-In is "unloaded", see the Uninstall Instructions.

Our Transpose Link Tool is now ready for use.

How to Un-install
To uninstall the Transpose Link Tool,

1. Start Microsoft Excel, and from the Tools menu, select Add-Ins...,
2. Un-tick/un-check the box for the "TSS Transpose Link Tool" and click OK. The menu bar will disappear, and the tool will not be loaded the next time Excel is started.

If you decide that you want to use the Transpose Link Tool again, just perform steps 2 and 5 from the How to Install Procedure.)

If you want to remove the TSS Transpose Link Tool reference from the list of Add-Ins,

1. Delete the file TT01-003.xla from your computer,
2. Start Microsoft Excel, and from the Tools menu, select Add-Ins...,
3. Try to tick/check the box for the "TSS Transpose Link Tool" the following message will appear, "Cannot find add in 'directory path\TT01-003.xla'. Delete from list?". Click Yes,
4. Close the Add-In dialog box by clicking OK.
